Chicken

Our farmers knock ...

... before they enter the chicken coop. After all, they don't want to startle their animals. They work in every other way with care and consideration, too. Because they know what makes poultry happy. Above all it is space without hustle and bustle whether for cockerels, hens, geese or ducks. For example, on a chicken meat farm a maximum of ten birds are kept per square metre of coop and never more than 4.800 in one henhouse. In addition to this they can run freely in the winter conservatory and yards outside which all enables the poultry to develop healthily. Our farmers have much experience in handling the birds and know how to strengthen their natural defenses. However, should a chicken have to be given antibiotics, the organic butcher company Bio-Metzgerei Bühler will take it out of the organic programme immediately.

The indoor and outdoor areas are so varied that the chickens can satisfy all their natural needs. They have roosts at various levels and sand baths on the ground where they are free to scrape and peck or groom their feathers in a dust bath. Waterfowl such as ducks and geese have even more particular requirements and are therefore given access to natural or specially provided water places.

Also important is the appropriate breed nutrition: developed to suit the birds and ecologically cultivated. Our farmers grow much of this themselves, like corn, peas, rape and sunflowers. To ensure we get the perfect mixture we apply all our experience and commission selected local cornmills with the composition. This collaboration is part of our poultry partnership concept, like many other things with which we consequently secure our quality and ensure transparency: from chick to customer, from field to fridge.
